Institutional Resilience

Resilience is not the absence of crisis but the capacity to function through it. We study the institutional features — redundancy, adaptive capacity, legitimacy — that allow systems to withstand and recover from shocks.

Questions we're asking

  • What makes an institution resilient rather than merely robust?
  • How is adaptive capacity built before it is needed?
  • What erodes institutional resilience, slowly and then suddenly?
